  1. Yessss, Cruel Beauty was such an awesome read! It’s the first time I read a Beauty and the Beast re-telling and I’m happy that it was my first one. I also liked Faking Normal. Sadly, I cannot remember much from the story except that I really liked it and I know it wasn’t a light contemporary read. Wow, I can’t even remember the MC’s name. :'( I suck at remembering books at times. My goal was to read 150 books this year but that was a total fail because I was in a huge reading slump throughout this year, plus college, so I changed my goal to 50.

    1. Alise says: Reply

Yeah it was a really great retelling! My memory is terrible too but I know the love interest’s name is Bodee :P Not sure about the main, haha. I know what you mean, I probably read about 50 actual novels and the rest was manga so :/

  2. Renu says: Reply

I’m super excited for An Ember in the Ashes, too! Loved Mortal Heart and although I’ve seen the anime for VK, I haven’t actually read the manga!

    1. Alise says: Reply

The advance reviews are great so I’m really excited! The anime is fun, the manga goes into a lot of depth and there’s like ten more volumes after the anime ends, I definitely recommend it!

  3. Both, A Court of Thorns and Roses as well as An Ember in the Ashes are on the top of my reading list for 2015!
And great job with reading over 165 this year :) I did not get over 100, it was too busy year for me and not enough reading time :/

    1. Alise says: Reply

      I’m so excited for them!
Thank you! I know what you mean, I read a lot of manga instead of full sized novels so that’s why my count is high.

  4. Kasie West’s books always put a smile on my face :) I will trade my soul for ACOTAR. Throne of Glass #4 is going to be AMAZING, I NEED IT. Oh I LOVE that quote from Ignite Me and that one from Heir of Fire. Rowan and Celaena are the cutest duo ever. Awesome post, Alise :)

They are so fun, aren’t they? TELL ME ABOUT IT AHHHH CAN’T WAIT. Rowan and Celaena whoop whoop! Thank you!

  5. I hope you can manage to read 175 books. Go you!

Mortal heart, BLLB & Heir of fire, you have amazing taste ;) I was also disappointed by Kiss of deception. Cruel beauty has such a stunning cover – and I love the inside too. Rowan/Celaena have such a great friendship (and it must stay that way. Still a firm Chaol/Celaena shipper) You should read Stolen Songbird soon, it’s good!

Baha, thanks xD I’m actually kind of glad someone else thought the same about Kiss of Deception. Yeah, I know what you mean I do overall hope for Chaol/Celaena, although I hope Rowan finds happiness again! Good to know :D

  6. I love this! I was shocked in Mortal Heart too! I was hoping I was right about his identity but I wasn’t sure. It was a great twist to the series!

Thanks! I had absolutely no idea-I actually had to reread that part because I didn’t think I read it right, haha!

  7. Best book I read/listened to this year…hands down Code Name Verity. I actually am gifting the physical book to two different people this holiday season. The book I can’t believe I waited so long to read…The Giver.

I’ve heard great things about the audio for that book, I want to give it a shot. I read the book but didn’t care for it too much but wonder if that would change with the audio. I STILL haven’t read the Giver-need to get on that.

      1. The way the story is told (in letters and diary entries) really works well in audiobook format. It was like Queenie and Maddie were in the car with me. Although it was difficult to not break down sobbing at times!

The Giver is such a quick, rewarding read. Definitely pick it up!

  8. Woot! Holy books read this year Batman! WTG Alise! Of course I love the HoF love here^^, that pretty much all I talked about in my survey LOL AND. Since I was lucky enough to be gifted BLLB, seeing it all over your survey got me all giddy to start it :D I still need to read my arc of Cruel Beauty and it seems to be a popular favorite this year SO WHY DIDN’T I READ IT ALREADY?!?

I also need to get into Stolen Songbird early next year. And YES I would sell my own mother of ACOTAR (sorry mom!) Ditto for the next Throne of Glass book. And An Ember in the Ashes, OMG! I love, love LOVE all your answers here^^ Happy Holidays Alise!! ♥

  11. I totally agree with Rowan and we all want them to get together, but I don’t know if we’ll be split between Chaol and Rowan supporters? Time will tell I guess. I’m finally picking up The Raven Boys this Christmas, I’m finally listening to everyone’s book pushing hehe. I think A Court of Thorn ans Roses are on many people’s lists, including myself!

He is one of the most memorable characters for sure. I agree with you on Kasie West, she always manages to make me smile with her lovely contemporaries. Aaand, Stolen Songbird was really great so hopefully you’ll enjoy it!

Oh my god Alise, I’m so jealous of how many books you could read this year!! I failed my GR challenge lol because those reading slumps kept coming back.

I haven’t read the majority of those books but yes! I totally agree that Kasie West books are really fun and smile-inducing. They are so downright fluffy you can’t help but to swoon and melt at every single romantic moment haha.

Cruel Beauty is really high on my list or 2014 releases I need to get to next year. Believe me, I have a LOT to catch up, and I think I’m gonna check out people’s best books of 2014 to see which one that constantly appears.

Yesss!! Attack on Titan made it!! I highly approve lol, guess I should be thankful for Bec’s pushing, otherwise you might not check it out hehe :D

Thanks so much Kezia! I do indeed celebrate :D I hope you have a great holiday too!

  21. Congrats on 165 books! That’s amazing! That’s too bad about Kiss of Deception. I’ve only seen the Vampire Knight anime, but I’m assuming they’re similar. Same with Attack on Titan and Black Butler. :) I love thriftbooks! Yes yes to Court of Thorns and Ember in the Ashes!

I still need to read Cruel Beauty but there are just so many books every year and I just can’t keep up with them all. :'( I wish I can even break 100, but alas, I’m not as awesome as everyone else. 27. I like the many times you put down Mortal Heart in your survey. I still have to read Dark Triumph but I have both of them on my shelf. There’s a few quotes I like from the whole Shatter Me series which I got on Christmas! I’ve read them before but they are so good. I think it’s in Unravel me but I love Juliette’s quote from her journal about thinking about killing herself. She mentions trying to be good or good enough for everyone. I also love the running one. I died inside when a certain someone read it.
I’ve only now read Throne of Glass. I’m so happy all the books are out because I’m not going to want to wait.
I love Paper Fury too! I’m so envious that Cait can review and speak her mind do well in the written form.
If ARCs didn’t exist it wouldn’t be as bad for me since I mostly read from the library but I’ve been able to read some amazing books I wouldn’t have if I didn’t have the ARC.
Hope you have a wonderful bookish year in 2015!

  28. I’m loving reading the answers to the survey, I’ve found so many great new books to add to my TBR this way. Congrats on 165 books, that’s an amazing number! I loved Heir of Fire, although I must admit that I will chuck the next book out the window if Celaena and Rowan start something romantic… I’M CHAOLAENA ALL THE WAY!!! <3 I'm so happy to find someone else who was disappointed with Kiss of Deception, that book did not work for me at all. I love Cait and Paper Fury, her posts are always so funny and put a smile on my face. Sell that kidney, A Court of Thorns and Roses is INCREDIBLE.
