When us bookworms hear that an adaptation is being made of our favourite novels, we are filled with both excitement and dread. The prospect of seeing our beloved characters come to life and bringing new fans to the books is something we dream of. But the risk that the adaptation will destroy everything we love about a book is big.[dividers]
Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman
A fast paced, bloody revenge story and hunt for gold? Nice side of romance? Dusty, Wild West setting?? VENGEANCE ROAD would be a perfect movie.
Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff
While his recent books, NEVERNIGHT AND ILLUMINAE might be more popular, it is Kristoff’s underrated debut fantasy trilogy that I really want to see as a TV series. A Fuedal Japan inspired steampunk fantasy that’s brutal and filled with twists and turns. There are too many plot points and characters to squeeze decently into a movie. To do it justice it needs multiple seasons and a massive budget for Buruu’s animation.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
THE NIGHT CIRCUS is one of the most magical books I’ve ever read. It would be gorgeous to see on screen but I don’t know if anyone could do it justice. I would love them to do it justice (it’s such a beautiful story) but I don’t know if it’s possible.
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
This is cheating a bit because THE SCORPIO RACES rights have already been sold (a few of the books have had the options sold actually). But anyway I’m still desperate for this to happen. I love me some horse movies. Plus the strong sense of family and attraction of the capall uisce is strong.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Recently I saw a trailer for that movie Flatliners that reminded me of the base concept of VICIOUS: experimentations with death leading to the development of superpowers. One thing I doubt that movie will have though is the exploration of the grey areas of good vs evil, or the amazing characters that exist in VICIOUS.
