5 Super Hyped Books I Still Haven’t Read

April 6, 2017 Discussion 44

I’d like to say that uni doesn’t give me any time to read, but let’s be honest, I’m totally procrastinating. Hyped books are TERRIFYING because they come with all these expectations, not to mention the fear of being the black sheep.

These are 5 of the many books that received a tonne of hype but I haven’t read yet.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

I can hear your screeches now. I know, I know! I’m missing out on so much epicness not having started this series yet. And I’ve run out of excuses now, with the final book having just been released. I promise it won’t be long until I’m losing myself in all the Londons.

Oh look, another Schwab book! Considering I loved Vicious so much, it surprising even me that I haven’t picked more of her stuff up. I’m going to tell myself that the reason behind this particular neglect is that I’m scared to read her YA stuff in case it isn’t as amazing.

The Bone Season

Okay so The Bone Season is just SO BIG. However will I get the time to binge read such a novel, and focus on all the world building and terminology. *shoves 20 adult epic fantasy novels under my bed*

Another completed series I have no excuses for not having read. Tbh, it might be because I don’t know entirely what it’s about and so don’t know when I’ll be in the mood for it. I may or may not have bought it because so many of my friends were going wild over it.

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

The hype when this first came out was INSANE. I bought it based on all the praise, also time travel. Its been waiting for me to be in the mood for a sci fi ever since.

Have you read these books?

What hyped books have you been hiding from?

I haven’t read any of these either– but then, I don’t read a lot of fantasy, so I usually do miss out on the hyped books. It’s cool though, I like to do my own thing and I’ve never been a fan of doing what everyone else is doing. I really didn’t expect that I would be reading what everyone else would be reading, but at the same time, I didn’t realize ALLLLLL the hyped books would be fantasy. Seems like that craze would have died down by now??

It is mostly the fantasy genre that’s hyped isn’t it?

The good thing about what you do is that you don’t have to worry so much about people setting unrealistic expectations.

Fantasy is just clearly the superior genre :P (it is my favourite genre so I’m slightly bias haha)

Hi Bec I love your post. I have read All Our Yesterdays ( liked it but not loved it). What I still need to read and bought: Red Rising, Daughter of Smoke and Bones, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken, the Bloodline series by Richelle Mead. Shame on me ;-)

    • Bec

      Thanks :)

DOSAB and Passenger are excellent! Bloodlines starts of really great but the later books are kind of meh unfortunately :( I hope you get to read them soon!

  3. Cait @ Paper Fury

Red Rising is basically = blood, guts, and glory. IT’S THE BEST BUT ALSO A MAMOTH THING!! And honestly I procrastinate hyped books like nothing else so I completely relate to this. I also procrastinate books that are over 400 pages because I’m a weakling. But I do hope you try the two Schwab books soon because they’re glorious perfection. <3

Oh man, I’m going to love it when I eventually get to it haha. I love books over 400 pages haha. It’s my standard book size.

SOON! I loved Vicious, I don’t know why I’m procrastinating so.

    • Bec

      You’ll get there eventually haha.

That’s the type of thing that scares me. Hype can set ridiculously high standards the book struggles to meet.

    • Bec

I hope you love This Savage Song! Hopefully we can both knock some exciting books of our TBRs :D

    • Bec

I know! I loved Vicious so much. I really need to get my act together and read her other stuff

  4. Puiman

I bought The Bone Season a couple of years ago and I still haven’t read it! I also have 4 of the Throne of Glass books, but I have yet to start that series. Major fail.

    • Bec

      We’ll get to it eventually!

I love the Throne of Glass series!! Each instalment is better than the last in my opinion. I hope you get to start it soon :)

    • Bec

I missed out when it was on Sync! But I also already owned the physical novel so really I didn’t need to necessarily download it haha.

    • Bec

I’ve had that dilemma with library books many times! Curse those due dates and school limiting our time.

    • Bec

She’s such a fabulous writer, I say having only read Vicious haha. I do highly recommend that at least.

    • Bec

I’m glad you’re enjoying ADSOM! I don’t get that many review books atm, but I do buy lots of hype books then leave them collecting dust on the TBR haha.

  5. Soudha Parsan

I did read A Darker Shade of Magic but I think all the hype got to me cause I didn’t enjoy as much as most people seem to have. I have to give it a reread though and see if my thoughts about the book have changed. The Bone Season is also one of those hyped books I want to read but I’m also kinda anxious to read, lol.

    • Bec

That is the trouble with hype :/ It can get in the way of enjoyment so easily. I hope you have better luck if you do decide to reread.

    • Bec

So many books, so little time! I’ve only read Vicious by Scwab and it was fantastic! Highly recommend that one at least since I have yet to read the others haha

  6. Anisha @ Sprinkled Pages

The Bone Season is so amazing you should totally read it! I read and really enjoyed it and I hope when you get around to it, you enjoy it too! And yeah I was super intimidated by it too before but once you get into it, it’s so enjoyable!

    • Bec

I’ll get to it one day! I’ve heard some fabulous things and I’m really intrigued by the world.

  7. A Canadian Girl

I wasn’t crazy about All Our Yesterdays but loved ADSOM. I now just need to get around to reading AGOS and ACOL. A colleague at work just gave me her copy of Red Rising two days ago so now that’s another book added to my TBR pile. The Bone Season is hard to get into initially but it’s totally worth it if you stick with it. The sequels are so good!

    • Bec

Reading a lot of epic fantasy, I’ve gotten used to books that are slow to start so I should be able to stick with the Bone Season.

I hope you love AGOS and ACOL as much as you loved ADSOM

  8. Micheline @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews

I still haven’t read This Savage Song either and I’ve pretty much read ALL the Schwab other than that one. I own it too so I have no excuse other than my current reading/blogging slump. I loved ADSOM though and definitely recommend you checking it out :) I was the black sheep with The Bone Season so I’ll leave that one at that D: and I still need to read Red Rising too!

Slumps are the worst! I definitely don’t like reading hype books during slumps because hype makes it hard enough.

    • Bec

Thanks :) I hope you end up loving our content as much as you love the pictures :D

I love brutal books! Hopefully we get to read and enjoy All Our Yesterdays soon :D

  9. Samantha Frances

I haven’t read Red Rising yet either even though it’s been sitting on my shelf for well over a year! The Bone Season will definitely not disappoint, although it is a hefty read with lots and lots of new terminology! I’m still yet to read any Victoria Schwab books, even though all of my reader friends rave over them! xxx

    • Bec

At least it’s sitting there looking pretty hahaha. As a big fantasy reader, hefty reads with lots of terminology aren’t too intimidating. I’ve dealt with that many times before.

You’ll definitely have to try Schwab’s books some day! Vicious was so unique and well written. I can’t wait to read more.

  10. Terri M., the Director

I have two of Schwab’s books on my shelf right now. I got them last year in hopes of running into her at WorldCon. She is going to be a Phoenix ComicCon so maybe I’ll get them signed then! (I still need to read them.)

I also have an ARC of Red Rising that I acquired at WorldCon. Pierce is going to be at Phoenix ComicCon as well. I guess I had better get reading!

I’ve actually read quite a few of these! I’m trying The Bone Season again, actually. I had a really hard time trying to get into it the first time I picked it up… but I’ve been looking forward to a big series and this sounds like if has a lot of potential if it does end up being something that I’m able to get into. (It also looks like an interesting fanbase, and there’s definitely a lot of hype surrounding the series…)

    • Bec

It’s so big, I’m not surprised it’s a challenge to get into. I’ve heard so many good things, I hope you have an easier time with this attempt!
