Gotta Catch Them All (Pokemon Go Book Tag)

November 27, 2017 Meme, Tag 12

Look, I know Pokemon Go came out over a year ago and not all that many people play it any more but I DON’T CARE! I haven’t done a tag in forever and this is a great excuse to stock up on book photos. Also it’s an easy post idea and we have zero posts in the schedule at the moment haha.

Fun fact: I’ve never actually played a Pokemon game. I’m a rare 22 year old.

Thanks to Aentee @ Read at Midnight for making such a creative tag!

the books that started your love for reading

I’ve talked about how I got into reading before, but the tl;dr version: Way back in primary school, I read as many books with horses in them as I could get my hands on. The Phantom Stallion and Unicorns of Balinor started it all. When I started playing Nancy Drew games I also had to check out the books (though I don’t own any ND books. How do I not own any???). My gateway into older books and fantasy however started with Kate Forsyth’s The Starthorn Tree and then Rhiannon’s Ride.

an iconic classic you’ll always love

It’s a hard toss up between HEART’S BLOOD by Juliet Marillier and POISON STUDY by Maria V Snyder. I’ve read both of these at least 5 times and they’re the first books I pick up when I want a comfort read.

a book you lost interest in because it’s literally everywhere

Not going to lie, I haven’t completly decided if I’m going to pick up TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN by John Green yet. I probably should (the little I’ve heard about it makes me think I’d relate to the main character) but…. eh? I’ve read three John Green books and the only one I liked was TFIOS.

a book that reminds you of other books (tropes) but you still love anyway

This was actually a hard one to think of. I knew there would be some fantasy that would fit this perfectly, because I’m a sucker for some fantasy tropes.

I guess I could put VENGEANCE ROAD in here since it does contain one of my favourite tropes (girls disguised as boys) and vengeance stories, but it’s pretty unique.

a book/ series you have not started due to sheer size

Series size has never really daunted me. I love me some big books and series. One I haven’t started yet that is 7 or so books long is the Obernewtyn series by Isobelle Carmody. Actually I’ve read the first two books, but cannot remember anything important plot wise about them.

a book that kept you up at night

The book that has kept me up the latest is CLOCKWORK PRINCESS. It made me ball my eyes out at 4am. I usually don’t stay up past 12am, sometimes 2am.

Nidoking/ Queen

bookish OTP

I HAVE SO MANY THOOUGH AHHH. For ease of finding pictures, I’m going to make it Feysand (which I didn’t even really ship in ACOTAR but ACOMAF made me turn around so fast! Still need to get to ACOWAR and immerse myself in all the feels they give me)

a fire hot, fast paced read

This one was easy! VENGEANCE ROAD is so fast paced and action packed. It was so hard to put it down to focus on uni things. I was even reading it in the 10 minute breaks between lectures just to experience more of the story.

A series you will never get tired of seeing spin-offs for

Throne of Glass is a series I find people either love or hate, but it has almost everything I ever wanted in the fantasy. Seriously, so many elements that I would plot into my old stories when I used to write. There aren’t any spin off yet, and there may never be, but I would love there to be. I don’t want to stop exploring this world yet.

a book/ series that was surprisingly awesome

I’d always heard great things about The Lumatere Chronicles, but for some reason I never expected it to be as amazing as it was! Probably because I’ve always known Melina Marchetta as a contemporary writer. But my god is she an amazing fantasy writer! She needs to dabble more in the fantasy genre please!

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

an overhyped series you’re still excited to read

Yes, I have yet to read any of the Shades of London books. I started A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC, but didn’t get far. I wasn’t in the write mood (boo uni putting me in a slump) and it wasn’t fair to force myself to continue. I’m really excited to dive into all the different Londons though! Eventually…

Mew & Mewtwo

a collector’s edition you wished you owned

I don’t think I own any collectors editions (I’m weird about owning more than two copies of a book). Actually I lie, I own the collector’s edition of TFIOS. But some I would sell my soul for are the coloured edge versions of NEVERNIGHT, GODSGRAVE, and STRANGE THE DREAMER. I also wish that they could do internationally the same versions because I always miss out on the bonus chapters and short stories and things (and don’t want to buy 3+ versions from all over the world just to get them all)

a debut novel you’re very excited for

Well, clearly my answer should be all the book blogger books coming out in 2018! (Looking at you Hazel and Cait!) But for the sake of pictures, I can’t wait to read AN ENCHANTMENT OF RAVENS. I only heard about this when it came out and now I’m desperate to get my hands on this debut fantasy.

Lure Module

an auto-buy author

This might have just inspired a new post idea, but for the sake of answering the question, Maggie Stiefvater is one of many auto-buy authors. Especially her new books. Each book is so unique and all are beautifully written.

Server’s Down

A book release you’ve been waiting on forever

I’ve fallen so behind on book release dates, what’s been pushed back, and all those things while I’ve been busy with uni. Because I’m SJM trash, I’m just going to say Throne of Glass #7. EMPIRE OF STORMS left me hanging and I’m desperate to know how it progresses.

Tag, You’re It!

Because it’s an outdated tag, I’m not going to nominate anyone specific. If you’re looking for a tag to do though feel free to consider yourself tagged!

I’ve never played it either, I’m probably a bit too old to be running around parks yelling at people (just assuming that’s how it worked really) but couldn’t agree more with Sarah J Maas, her books are impossible to put down. I’d read anything she put her name to actually. I’ve got the coloured edges in both Nevernight and Strange The Dreamer, I think you can still probably buy the sprayed edges Strange The Dreamer can’t you? As long as it’s the first print that came along with the signed title page.

I played it when it came out, and it was a lot of fun! But I quickly deleted it for phone space (I needed more room for book photos XD )

From what I’ve seen other bloggers say a few months ago, it’s quite the struggle to hunt down a first print. They ran out quick!

I still haven’t seen that movie. But the book was pretty meh so I don’t have all that much of a desire to watch it.

TID are my favourite shadowhunter novels!! Love the historical aspect of the story.

  2. Genni @ Ready, Set, Read!

I absolutely adored this tag! Even though it’s outdated, I loved the pairings of the prompt and pokemon. I know you don’t play (I was an avid fan of the DS games way back when, and still play them when I’m bored!), but they fit spectacularly. I have never actually read Poison Study, but it seems so well loved! One day I’ll get to it and see what all the love is about. :) I’m slowly but surely making my way through the Throne of Glass series, but I don’t know if I’ll catch up. I think I might lose interest!

      They’re great prompts!!

Poison Study is one of my all time favourite books and it’s so underrated!! It’s so easy to read. I hope you get to read it soon.

I hope the plot of Throne of Glass gains your interest soon! Or if not, that’s fine too haha. Not all books are for everyone.

  3. Kathy @ Books & Munches

I haven’t been around the blogosphere that long, so it’s the first time I see a bookish Pokémon tag, haha. It was fun to read your answers!
Amazing that you evaded the whole Pokémon-gaming hype! It’s like someone somehow escaping Harry Potter in their youth: amazing, haha.

I think I read some books of Poison Study, but in Dutch. I’m not sure though since the title’s different in English, but it sounds way too familiar! I’ll have to check them out again.

      It’s a really fun tag!!

Haha I was really isolated as a child :P Too busy playing with my horse toys. Plus my parents could never afford the gaming consoles so.

… I also, um, avoided the HP hype. Only read the books for the first time last year.

I remember a neighbor when I was younger trying to teach me about Pokemon cards, but yeah, never played it. LOL So you aren’t the only one!! I love John Green – it’s funny that so many people have TFIOS as their favorite from him because I think that’s his most different, but it might be why you and many others don’t love his other work. Looking for Alaska is so far my favorite by him, but I like them all. I have Turtles and hope to read soon. I hear he does OCD well in it, which makes sense, since it’s #ownvoices.

I love the look of special collector editions. I tend to get any and all HP editions that I can, but not so much other books – though I do want some.

Ooh, and I loved A Darker Shade of Magic (I finally read it this year haha) and I need the second two asap.

I think the fact that it’s his most different is why I love TFIOS more. It’s much more my type of books. Looking for Alaska and Paper Times annoyed me for various reasons.
