"When Gods and Vampires Roamed Miami" is the story of when immortal teen goddess Athena is mistaken for a vampire by a desperate youth who refuses to leave her side until she turns him. This tale takes place in the world of the Goddess Wars series for young adults by award-winning author Kendare Blake.

Kendare Blake’s Goddess War series is on my TBR list, but it wasn’t a series that I planned on reading immediately. I sort of stumbled onto this one and upon falling in love with the cover, I just had to give it a shot.

This novella really piqued my interest for ANTIGODDESS and reminded me how much I enjoy Blake’s writing due to how descriptive and vivid it is. This tells kind of a sad story but it kept me flipping pages. The plot was a little odd, and I wish there had been a bit more explanation in regard to a few things.

I like the concept of Athena and the other gods and really want to see more from them. Athena is still a little bit of a mystery in this book as we don’t get to know a whole lot about her here, but what we are shown is intriguing for sure. She is shown to be a very multifaceted character in the way she deals with her tag-along Skylar.

Bottom line, WHEN GODS AND VAMPIRES ROAMED MIAMI is a short story that I would recommend checking out for a quick, entertaining read. You can do so for free on Tor’s website here.

I can completely understand why you decided this was a necessary read after seing the cover. It is so captivating and interesting and just YES. It made me super interested, seeing that cover, to read your review and find out what this novel was about- and I find it’s a short story! I’m definitely gonna check it out, Alise. It might win me over with trying the series, too, and Athena seems like a really interesting character- one I’m keen to meet! Lovely review. xx

Right? I wish more book covers took on that kind of style for the cover. I’d recommend this one to see if the rest of the series will interest you, for sure. It did for me! Thanks :)
