The Raven Cycle (re)Readathon Announcement + Sign Up

July 1, 2014 Read-a-Thon 54

There are three types of people in this world.

1) The people who make good life decisions and have read The Raven Cycle novels.

2) The people who are preparing for great life decisions and have THE RAVEN BOYS on their TBR.

3) The people who do not fit into either of this categories and are dead to the rest of us.

And this little event I’ve been organising with Amber for the last little while is the perfect thing for all three to do while they’re lazying about enjoying their summer or huddling in their cozy beds waiting for winter to go away. We’ve been talking about it for so long, reveling in its secrecy as we taunt people on twitter with the things they can’t know >:D It’s kind of weird that this is actually happening now. I hope it turns out to be as successful and fun and amazing for everyone involved.

Now, this is the first readathon I have ever organised. I have no idea if I am doing anything “right”. But there is one thing I know for sure: this should be fun. Amber and I have so much planned, and we’re finalising the last few bits and pieces now. I am so excited for this and can’t wait for it to begin.  You should join so you don’t miss out on all the awesome ;)

That was such a crappy intro I’m sorry. My brain has quit after exams. Let’s get on to the important/boring stuff that was much easier to write.

TRCR readathong mock up

When is it?

The entire readathon runs from the 28th August 2014 until the 28th of October. Well be dedicating one month (August 28–September 28) to THE RAVEN BOYS and one month (September 28 — October 27) to THE DREAM THIEVES. A proper schedule with full dates for what chapters are being read when, etc will be posted when we start each book… I assume.

Where is it?

Posts will appear on both Books of Amber and here on Readers in Wonderland. For the weekly discussion posts we’ll be alternating which blog they appear on, but all major announcements and wrap up and stuff will appear on both. Because part of this readathon is also being organised on Tumblr and other social media, I’ll be there reblogging and posting extra stuff in various places.

And you can post your own questions and discussions! If it’s on social media you should use some hashtags so we can find ALL THE THINGS:

Tumblr & Instagram: #TRCReadathon

Twitter: (a shorter one here because damn character limits)

Who can join?

ANYONE. You don’t need a blog, you don’t need a tumblr, you don’t need any sort of social media (though it helps with the sign up part). You don’t need to have read the series before. We’re welcoming new readers and old readers.

What can you expect to see?

We have so many awesome things planned. Fun weekly posts and challenges, discussion questions, a scavenger hunt, a Q&A with Maggie hersef (which we should really start finalising things for…), twitter chats, SO MANY THINGS.

What’s in it for you?

Obviously it’s going to be fun. You get to fangirl with other people, over analyse writing, relive all the painful moments of the beautiful series. You could also win stuff! We have two giveaways planned: one easy one with a good prize, and one that requires a little more effort but an AWESOME prize

Why should you join?

Well, a) you can use it as an excuse to push other books aside and reread THE RAVEN BOYS and THE DREAM THIEVES in preparation for BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE.  Or alternatively b) it is your excuse to finally jump onto the Raven Cycle bandwagon!

Want to join us in this magical adventure? Sign up below!

Just enter your name, email, and a url to one of the places you plan on participating (so a tumblr url, a twitter profile, and instagram account, your blog, etc)

Because linky tools is being difficult, head over to Amber’s post to sign up. Her’s is still working so you should be able to sign up there

You aren’t required to make a sign up post but we’d love it if you did! Feel free to save the banner banner and display it on your blog, on your tumblr, twitter wherever!! It’d help spread the word and get more people involved and we’d really appreciate it. (It might even mean an extra entry in one of the giveawaways ;) )

So, who’s joining us? Is this your first time reading the series? Or are you revisiting like I am? And ARE YOU AS EXCITED FOR THIS AS I AM???

P.S. I am away interstate until July 12th so I don’t know if I’ll be able to respond to comments for a while. I am not ignoring you I promise!

I would love to read this series soon! But school’s been hectic and I’m not sure I’ll be able to join you girls. ;( I’ll think about it, though! :D If I’m able to adjust to school time by the readathon dates, I’ll be there! ;)

I understand, school is more important. But I hope you can manage it! It’d be great to have you participating :)

    • Bec

My classes are starting again around the same time… It’s going to be hectic!

      It’s a great excuse XD

  2. Ella @ Once Upon a Time

Heck, Bec, that second gif scared the bejeezus out of me!! I literally just screamed out loud! :O

This readathon sounds FRABJOUS but I think I’ll have to skip it with schoolwork and stuff :( Maybe next time though!! :)

Love this series! Maggie Stiefvater is definitely my favorite author. Scorpio Races was my first read. I especially love how she ties in Welsh/Latin with her writing in this series. Would love to join!

    • Bec

Yes! She’s one of my favourite authors too! The Scorpio Races is one of my all time favourite books. And the mythology she includes is brilliant.

    • Bec

JEANN YOU DISAPPOINT ME. So many awesome books you own but have not read. Tut tut. At least you are changing that for this series :P

  4. Miranda @ Tempest Books

Aww I really wish you guys were doing this NEXT year, and then I would totally join. I only let myself read series once they’re all out…but the series doesn’t end until 2015 :/ Oh well. But I’m really excited to read it once they’re all published! I’ve heard such great things about it :)

Understandable, especially with the cliffhangers this series has. And who knows, if this goes really well maybe we’ll organise another one next year that you could join ;)

  5. Micheline @ Lunar Rainbows Reviews

Well, having just recently read The Raven Boys I can safely say that your decision here is nothing short of brilliant ^^ I might not have the time to re-read that one BUT (if I don’t cave and read it before) I might just join you guys in reading The Dream Thieves! It wouldn’t be a re-read for me though, since I haven’t read it yet but I love the idea of this SO SO much ♥

Thank you, thank you. Though it should be expected because I am brilliant :P

Yes join us for The Dream Thieves! It shall be fun (I hope) :)

  6. Tanja

But I started The Dream Thieves just few days ago! Damn I’d wait for you if I knew about this. Now I will finish it soon so yeah I won’t need to reread it before the amazing Lily is out. But you guys have fun! :D I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. ;)

You are making great life decisions slightly too early XD Feel free to join us for the challenges and discussions even if you don’t want to read the books again so soon!

  7. Sydney @ Pika Pages

I haven’t read this series yet, but I have really been wanting too. I even just requested the book from my library a few days ago. But I guess now I will have to wait a little while so that I can do this readathon. I’m quite excited for it!

    • Bec

Yay! It’s an amazing series. I hope you enjoy it (even if you have to wait a little longer than you originally planned!)

  8. Andreea

So don’t kill me, Bec, please don’t. But I didn’t like the first book. It was okay, but I felt the world building was too complicated and I just couldn’t really get into this book.

Anyway, happy (re)reading anyway and glad you love these books so much!

      YOU WHAT?!

Just kidding. I realise people have different tastes. I’m not going to get mad just because your opinion is different to mine.

I hope you’ve found books you enjoyed more since!

    • Bec

I love her Wolves books but these… These blow them out of the water (she gets better with each book I swear). I hope you can join us :D

  9. Melanie (YA Midnight Reads)

Sounds like a lot of fun! I definitely need to retry this series–I gave up on The Raven Boys when I attempted it a few months back and am certain that there was something wrong with me at the time.

Have fun to those who are participating!

    • Bec

Yeah, it’s annoying how your mood at the time can effect your experience of a book you might otherwise enjoy :/ I’m glad you’re willing to give these another go!

  10. Kristen

So awesome! I adore TRC to the point of having read the books 2/3 times respectively, and writing my own unpublished fanfic and lyrics about it. I’ve been looking for other people who enjoy it as much as I do! I’ve been planning to reread them again anyways, so now I can’t wait for this :)

    • Bec

You are much more of a fan than me! I’ve only read TRB twice and TDT once…

Yay! Can’t wait to discuss things with you :)

  11. Renee

(sorry, this really isn’t meant to be spammy, but I’m so excited!)

  12. Lily

I have read the books like a thousand times they are soooooooooooo gooooooooooood cant wait the next one
