Cast out of her family three years ago, Mara turned to the only place that would take her—a school where students train to protect others. But Mara is stunned when guarding a noble girl in the Empire’s capital turns out to be more dangerous than she could’ve imagined. More shocking still, she finds the boy she thought she had lost forever outside the gates of her new home.

Mara knew her life in the dizzying Imperial city would hold dangers. How could she have known that her heart, as well as her life, would be at stake?

Empire of Shadows will take readers on a spellbinding journey into the world Miriam Forster first introduced in City of a Thousand Dolls—a world with a divided society, deadly courtiers, heroic traitors, and deeply laid conspiracies.

Genre: Fantasy
Release Date: September 9th, 2014

Downton Abbey meets Cassandra Clare in this lush, romantic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White.

“I did my best to keep you from crossing paths with this world. And I shall do my best to protect you now that you have.”

Jessamin has been an outcast since she moved from her island home of Melei to the dreary country of Albion. Everything changes when she meets Finn, a gorgeous, enigmatic young lord who introduces her to the secret world of Albion’s nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn’t—power, money, status…and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, dangerous secrets that the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits and her determination, can stop him.

Kiersten White captured readers’ hearts with her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy and its effortless mix of magic and real-world teenage humor. She returns to that winning combination of wit, charm, and enchantment in Illusions of Fate, a sparkling and romantic new novel perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare, The Madman’s Daughter, and Libba Bray.

YES READ CITY OF A THOUSAND DOLLS!! I think you’d like it :D

I really hope Illusions of Fate is magical too. It’d be disappointing if it just focuses on some romance, but I don’t think it will. I want to get lost in the magic and politics and stuff.

      Thanks :)

  2. Jessica @ a GREAT read

OOh nice! The first is new to me but I love the cover! Curious about Kiersten’s new book as well! Another lovely cover! Great picks!

Fantasy is my favourite genre!! Empire of Shadows is more high fantasy so that might be why it calls to you more (idk maybe not. Just guessing here)

Thanks! Hope you enjoy the blog :)

  4. Romi Foster

Oh my goodness, what beautiful covers! Especially Empire of Shadows- that’s so unique and it really draws me in. Yet again I haven’t heard of either of these books, but they both sound really interesting so I’m off to add more books to my tbr!

      No worries :)

I need CPR!!!That cover for Empire of Shadows is WOW! I just cannot! WOW! I still haven’t read the first book in the series but I really want to so yeah I’ll be reading it soon. The second one is really pretty too and when it says “Downton Abbey meets Cassandra Clare” how can I ask for more. Great picks, girls :)

Isn’t it just magnificient!! I need the Bhinian Empire books on my shelf just so I can stare at the covers all day XD

That comparison of Downton Abbey and Cassandra Clare was what drew me in first too. Then the magic and everything else :D

    • Bec

Doesn’t it just! It is not weird. I just want to hug it to my face and stroke it tenderly.

(WHAT DID I JUST WRITE LKHDKSJHD)

  6. Faye @ The Social Potato

I really like that cover of Illusions of Fate. It’s very elusive and mysterious. I’m just unsure of the author, because most of the works I’ve heard from her haven’t been received that well. But hey, if she’s still churning out books, there must be something about her that sells! :)

I’d love to read Empire of Shadows from the cover alone, but I need to read book 1 first!

I’ve read a few books by Kiersten White and she’s not bad! Her writing just seems to come across as younger YA sort of thing. Her stories are entertaining though, the ones I have read anyway.

Yes read book 1! It’s really good! Though I have a feeling that Empire of Shadows is more a companion novel than a direct sequel.

    • Bec

I think these appeal a lot more to fantasy fans, but they’ll definitely attract a lot of attention because of the covers.

      No worries :)

    • Bec

OOoohh yes read City of a Thousand Dolls! It needs more love :D

The wait is too long (it always is :P )
